The Appearing is the story of a couple, Michael (Will Wallace) & Rachel (Emily Brooks), who move to a small town in the middle of nowhere after the death of their daughter a few months prior. Michael takes on his roll as the new police deputy in town and is instantly caught up in a missing person case. That is quickly followed by the only suspect speaking in dead languages, the appearance of a ghost child that only the wife can see and of course a creepy abandoned house which is, according to the locals, haunted since a horrific death there years early. With the husband distracted by his work, he fails to notice that his wife has been acting more distant and rather strange until one particular violent episode reveals the true culprit behind it all, demon possession. All of the plot points do make for a good, if not very original, horror film. The question is, as always, did it deliver? (more…)

Child of God is the story of Lester Ballard (Scott Haze), a violent and twisted man who is trying to live a normal life in a town with no family, no real home (he’s camping out in an abandoned cabin) & no true friends. The townsfolk ostracize him for his strange behaviour and treat him like a criminal. This causes him to become more and more twisted and turn to criminal acts each one worse than the last before resorting to cave dwelling and essentially being on the run from the entire town. Scorned is a film ummm about a woman who is scorned by her lover, some stuff happens and it’s over. The End.
Okay, okay I know it’s not that simple so let me start again. Scorned is about Sadie (AnnaLynne McCord) who, while on a romantic weekend with her boyfriend Kevin (Billy Zane) discovers he has been cheating on her with her best friend Jennifer (Viva Bianca). Cue the start of a twisted night of revenge, torture and some very crazy behaviour. Probably not the best movie for a date night to all the couples out there but if you like a bit of a thriller then this is the film for you. So what did I personally think about my viewing experience? Well…… (more…)

Alright so let me lay it out for you. Speak no Evil starts off as a film about a woman whose daughter is kidnapped by a weird creature in the middle of the night. It then transforms into a story about all of the towns children going missing only to be returned possessed, violent and extremely into the taste of human flesh. The church/cult/extreme religious wing manages to get all of the towns folk on board to essentially rid the children of this demon spawn by any means possible. Bring on creepy kids, lots of screaming a shit ton of blood and a demon dude that is actually impressively scary looking. So would I recommend this film to others? Well……. (more…)

This is the story of two strangers, who happened to grow up in the same small town, meeting randomly on a bus ride and are ultimately involved in an accident. They both wake up afterwards to discover that the whole town is deserted and surrounded by a thick black fog that is slowly creeping closer and closer to engulf everything. The two strangers need to become friends and work together to figure out what has happened, what is hiding in the fog and how they can escape. (more…)

As usual, let’s start with a story breakdown. The Bleeding House is the story of a family who has been ostracised by their town for some past failures and now live isolated in their house. A random travelling man (dressed in the most bizarre white suit) turns up on their doorstep, after his car broke down, seeking shelter for the night from the winter cold. After realising he’s not from in town and knows nothing of their past, the family let him in and give him a room for the night. This, of course, turns out to be a rather large mistake as he is under the impression that he is on a godly mission to seek out bad families and serve justice in the best way he knows how….death. This film is a found footage style horror/documentary about the ruins of old St. Mary’s church which has, for years, been surrounded by haunting rumours, weird experiences and even black cult masses being held in its location. So naturally a group of friends and paranormal experts turn up to make a documentary and try to capture some of this weird phenomenon on camera. As expected there is a lot of night vision footage, weird things happen that freak everyone out and there is even a cult ritual sacrifice of some such thrown in for good measure. (more…)
