The Appearing is the story of a couple, Michael (Will Wallace) & Rachel (Emily Brooks), who move to a small town in the middle of nowhere after the death of their daughter a few months prior. Michael takes on his roll as the new police deputy in town and is instantly caught up in a missing person case. That is quickly followed by the only suspect speaking in dead languages, the appearance of a ghost child that only the wife can see and of course a creepy abandoned house which is, according to the locals, haunted since a horrific death there years early. With the husband distracted by his work, he fails to notice that his wife has been acting more distant and rather strange until one particular violent episode reveals the true culprit behind it all, demon possession. All of the plot points do make for a good, if not very original, horror film. The question is, as always, did it deliver? (more…)

Alright so let me lay it out for you. Speak no Evil starts off as a film about a woman whose daughter is kidnapped by a weird creature in the middle of the night. It then transforms into a story about all of the towns children going missing only to be returned possessed, violent and extremely into the taste of human flesh. The church/cult/extreme religious wing manages to get all of the towns folk on board to essentially rid the children of this demon spawn by any means possible. Bring on creepy kids, lots of screaming a shit ton of blood and a demon dude that is actually impressively scary looking. So would I recommend this film to others? Well……. (more…)

This film is a found footage style horror/documentary about the ruins of old St. Mary’s church which has, for years, been surrounded by haunting rumours, weird experiences and even black cult masses being held in its location. So naturally a group of friends and paranormal experts turn up to make a documentary and try to capture some of this weird phenomenon on camera. As expected there is a lot of night vision footage, weird things happen that freak everyone out and there is even a cult ritual sacrifice of some such thrown in for good measure. (more…)

10 years after the horrific murder of their mother after opening night of her Broadway show, twin brother & sister now work as cooks for their adoptive father at his musical/drama camp Center Stage. The annual performance is an adaption of the final play the mother was in so naturally the daughter tries out for the lead role. Now before you roll your eyes at the thought of a musical, i need to add in to fact that there are numerous murders throughout and random moment of bad language that always feel so out of place. Stage Fright is this brilliant combination of Glee & Scream which is hilarious, horrific and musical all at the same time. It was pretty damn awesome! (more…)

I need to start by saying that when found footage films first started making an appearance I was a huge fan of them but then they started appearing in force and drowning out the market to the point where these days I tend to roll my eyes at the thought of another found footage film. For those reasons I was skeptical about Skinwalker Ranch…..that is until I saw the trailer. I was completely sold just from that and therefore went headfirst into this film expecting a whole lot and WAS NOT disappointed. (more…)

Quick note to start with, this movie is called A Devil’s Inside where I’m from but apparently it’s called The Perfect House everywhere else. I am never sure exactly why these changes happen but they are the same film and I have decided to name this review the original title as it seems to be the prominent one internationally.

This movie is essentially three short stories combined together to make one complete film. The general plot is about a young couple who are meeting with a realtor to buy a house. Everything about the place seems perfect and the price is right, however, the basement seems to be the big negative that has always scared other potential buyers away. (more…)

If you have seen this title and think it might be similar in style and quality to that of Paranormal Activity, don’t be fooled. It is nothing like it at all.

This is a found footage style film about 3 friends doing a documentary at an abandoned asylum (as you do) on the infamous Typhoid Mary. There are all the usual aspects, interviews, set up recordings, ghost sightings and a possession but none of the interesting events or surprises like other films in this genre.

As with a lot of films like this, they have pronounced that it is inspired by true events. (more…)
