Scorned is a film ummm about a woman who is scorned by her lover, some stuff happens and it’s over. The End.
Okay, okay I know it’s not that simple so let me start again. Scorned is about Sadie (AnnaLynne McCord) who, while on a romantic weekend with her boyfriend Kevin (Billy Zane) discovers he has been cheating on her with her best friend Jennifer (Viva Bianca). Cue the start of a twisted night of revenge, torture and some very crazy behaviour. Probably not the best movie for a date night to all the couples out there but if you like a bit of a thriller then this is the film for you. So what did I personally think about my viewing experience? Well……

I loved this movie so much! It was just a really twisted film with so fantastic acting and some extremely cringe worthy moments. With a style very similar to that of the pod97scornfilm Misery, Sadie traps and ties up the two people who have done wrong by her and proceeds to torment them with a variety of methods she either witnessed in movies she has watched or things she’s always wanted to try. As the hours go by you learn how truly crazy she is through the techniques she uses, way she speaks and the revelations from her past. With a nice little twist ending, Scorned provides everything you want in thriller with very little disappointments along the way.

AnnaLynne McCord is fantastic as Sadie with a brilliant portrayal of someone who has deep mental & psychological issues presenting in such a way that instead of just letting it all come forth in one great burst it unravels with a steady rhythm that allows the audience to see her as a normal carefree girl at the beginning to a completely unstable person by SCORNED-03the end of the film. It is really a great performance which ultimately made the film so great when it so easily could have ruined it had the portrayal been less than what it was.

Billy Zane on the other hand was rather average as boyfriend Kevin. I know his character didn’t require too much depth to help the story along but maybe a little more conviction in his feelings for either female character may have helped me have more sympathy for him as a revenge victim even though ultimately he did wrong. Overall it was a below par performance from him when I know he could have brought so much more (even though lately his performance in Scorned has been on par with the various other films he has been doing, come on Billy you can do better, I believe in you!)

Special effects weren’t a huge aspect of the film as a lot of the ‘bad stuff’ was more implied that visual which was actually a nice change and definitely fit the tone and feel of this film much more so than an overuse of gore and violence. Having said that, the horrific log of wood between the feet scene (watch and learn) was very well done and 1389226192_37795279001_3026606243001_video-still-for-video-3026625507001made me cringe so much. With only a handful of sequences like that it was the perfect balance of ‘oh god why?!’ mixed in with rest of the thrilling storyline.

Reasons to Watch: For a story that may not be original but is still well written, fantastic acting especially by AnnaLynne McCord and generally some really great viewing.

Review: 4/5
